Ufemat Congress 2023
From April 20-22, 2023, the 63rd Ufemat Congress will take place in Dublin. Toine Domensino, general manager of 2Return, will speak during this conference about the possibilities and necessity to reuse wooden pallets from the construction site.
Ufemat was established in Brussels in 1958 as a partnership between national trade organizations and associations representing construction merchants and manufacturers of building materials in various European countries. Its purpose is to promote communication and best practices between members and support their commercial and economic interests. This year, sustainability and recycling and reuse of packaging material in the construction industry are on the agenda.
The reuse of wooden pallets is already being embraced in many industries. The construction industry, on the other hand, scores poorly when it comes to returning pallets. After completion of a construction project, all remaining construction waste, including a significant part of the wooden pallets on which the construction materials are delivered, is removed and recycled into biomass. The result is a tidy construction site, but also a waste of scarce raw materials and an increase in CO2 in the atmosphere due to combustion. Instead of recycling, the focus should be on limiting the purchase of new materials by reusing the current ones as often as possible. Wooden pallets can be reused for transport and storage of building materials after inspection and possible repairs. A sustainable and cost-effective solution.
Which important sustainability steps should be added to the process, the practicalities of this service, but also the possible savings in terms of CO2 emissions will be discussed during the presentation.
On Thursday, April 20, Toine Domensino will give his presentation.
